Double-bass player Matthew Sperry was already an important figure in the Bay Area's improvised music scene when he died in a bicycle accident in 2003. And nearly every year since there has been a memorial festival in a musical journey of remembrance and reunion. This year's festival is June 9th and 10th in Oakland and Berkeley, and will feature performances for large ensemble commissioned for the festival by the Enormous Ensemble and special guests.
