Milton Babbitt turns 90 next month. He has been a significant influence for many composers since the 1960's. Yet much of his music is unknown and rarely played. Always a controversal and "othermindly" figure, MFOM wishes him a happy birthday.

Oakland composer John Prokop writes: "In August 2003 I got married to my longtime girlfriend, Madeline... We wanted some background to be played while the vows were exchanged. So I wrote this short piece -- later entitled New England, Late Summer, --something that would not call attention to itself but be still an effective canvas."

This program is about taking music apart and putting it back together again.

Aphex Twin (Richard James) is a composer of electronica dance music. The ensemble ALARM WILL SOUND's release ACOUSTICA on Cantaloupe is one of the great achievements of recomposition. All the pieces on ACOUSTICA are versions of original electronic pieces by Aphex Twin, rescored for acoustic instruments. I highly recommend this album, even if you're just casually interested. From it we heard:
